A successful Saturday

With such an action packed weekend in store it would have disappointing if we had no victories to report but gladly we have!

Congratulations to Shandon and Dublin stalwart Maree O’Toole who won the All-Ireland Senior Ladies Intermediate Championships in Cloghogue today. Maree shot a brilliant -1 total score to win by a 6 shot margin.

There was more success as the Intermediate Gents team won back the Dave Donnelly Trophy from their Westmeath counterparts in the surrounds of RGSC. The game was played in a wonderful spirit, befitting the kind nature of the former Erins Isle man who the trophy is named. A great performance by the men as they will look to reclaim the Leinster title in Lough Owel in a couple of weeks time.

Finally hard luck in the All-Ireland U-16 Matchplay Championships to Old County juvenile Lennon Blake who fought ferociously all day in St.Stephens, Co.Cork. Lennon romped through his round robin group winning all 4 of his games to qualify for the final 16. The winning though was to stop there but Lennon gave his all and will no doubt be back.

Good luck to all our players playing around the country tomorrow

Its an action packed weekend for all grades this week as two more National Finals take place.

On Saturday we have the Ladies National Senior PJ & Catherine Bell Championships taking place in the beautiful terrain just over the border in Cloghogue. Dublin is well represented with 12 entries throughout the grades and have a lot of live chances throughout those grades and maybe a repeat of the 2015 Dublin clean sweep is possible!

On the Sunday the men take their chance in the same competition and with results in recent years favouring our men in a couple of the grades, it would once again be unsurprising to see some trophies travel back to the Capital.

Play begins on both days at 9.30am with shot gun starts. The 2nd session begins at 2pm.

On the opposite side of the age scale and country the U-16 Boys Matchplay takes place in St.Stephens in Co.Cork.

Last year’s competition in Clonee was a fantastic spectacle and this event should serve as another good showcase for the development of the underage game.

We wish all our representatives well.

Closer to home, the Lucan Open Week continues with play on Friday, Saturday & Sunday in their Scotch Foursomes so anybody in the area pop in and give the club some support. The finals of the National Mixed Foursomes take place here in 4 weeks time so no better opportunity to learn the Lucan course.

On Saturday in RGSC, Darren Thornberry will lead his Intermediate Squad into battle against their Westmeath counterparts as they take each other on in the annual Dave Donnelly Trophy. A great test before the challenges of Lough Owel next month.

Another competitions taking place this weekend is the Kildare Masters in St.Bridgets & Athgarvan on Saturday.

Dublin Under 16 Match Play

We had our under 16 match play in Fairview CY on Saturday 15th July. We had some top class matches and a few surprising results. With previous winner Lennon Blake in the same group as David Horan their clash was eagerly anticipated. We had Luke Devlin in the other group and he was favourite to top this group but he lost his first match to an inspired Alex Keegan and this opened the group up. With David and Lennon winning both their earlier matches David produced a fine finish to defeat Lennon by 2&1. The other group had 3 way tie and despite Luke and Alex’s best efforts Conor Parsons held his nerve to win on the 3rd tie hole. David took control of the early exchanges in the final and despite Conor’s best efforts he ran out a worthy winner. Conor is only playing a few months and will gain alot from his performance well done to all who played and entered the championship.
Our thanks to CY for the use of their facilities and the course was very challenging to the players.
Well done to the mentors who look after the players and the parents who had them well turned out.
Winner David Horan (Glenville)
R/Up Conor Parsons ( Old Co )
